Buildings Burned When the British soldiers stormed the capital, the first building that they went to was the White House. When they arrived, they found a set dining table and ate dinner before lighting the home on fire.
Next, they went to the Capitol building. Here they lit the roof on fire first, because it was the only wooden part of the building. Once it collapsed, the hall underneath it went up in flames. The Library of Congress was destroyed in the fire. |
